The Art Collector Equity Project

Ingenio Partum, stands behind the idea that equitable access to art and culture is a vital component of healthy and sustainable community ecosystems. We’ve heard of equity when it comes to representing diverse artist populations and the artistic talents of the under-represented. What is not addressed is the problem of economic equity when we speak of collecting art. And, what we know is that creativity begets creativity. Having meaningful, inspiring art in one’s home or place of work is often the seed that unlocks latent talent, increases mental health and can lead to a shift in the economic landscape of communities that have not had access to the art world.

It is estimated that nearly 70% of people never buy art for their homes and 50% of those people cite cost as the reason. The majority of our nation is not bringing art into their homes or businesses. This is not for lack of interest or a desire for beauty in their surroundings.

We believe there is basic human longing for what we deem beautiful to lift our spirit and surround our daily life. Ingenio partum is Latin for creative genius. It exists in each of us, with endless means for expression. Meaningful art is often the very thing that ignites that genius in another and an important way we find connection as humans. For children, there is even an established notion that beauty communicates an important message of worth.

Whether it is a school or small business in need of an artistic facelift to inspire its mission or a young family who desires to have meaningful art in their first home, or a budding art collector without the means to collect, we aim to close this gap through our Art Collector Equity Project. Our program will pay artists their full rate and allow art collectors to pay for art based on ability through the Art Collector Equity Project, where a collector is defined as any person or organization that wishes to obtain artwork.

We imagine this program leveling the economic backdrop of the art collector scene and becoming an earmark in every socially responsible gallery, art show, and art retail venue throughout the US and beyond. Thereby shifting the way artists and promoters of art distribute art and would-be collectors find meaningful artwork gracing their communities.
