About >>

When an artist decides to partner with a particular medium they find intriguing, Grace believes they enter into a reciprocal relationship with the essence of that element. That is the element that is transformed into artwork, equally transforms the artist whose hands and heart it moved through. This past year Grace felt a quiet ping to incorporate silk ribbon upcycled from the silk garment industry in her artistic exploration.

The silk has been a magical mirror and creative partner revealing wonderfully fluid and graceful qualities. When layered on canvas it creates a ripple of texture reminiscent of water. Grace has found her growth edge in learning to soften and allow fluidity where there was once rigidity in long held beliefs about self, about the world, about relationships, about the nature of consciousness. After long sessions in the studio, Grace emerged with curious insights, downloads and bits of silk everywhere, often commenting, “it’s like I am becoming silk”.

Grace has used beloved driftwood in her jewelry designs for many years and intuited the essence of this upcycled oceanic medium as the letting go of roots and being organically tumbled by life. Driftwood represents the purification that comes from surrendering to our truth, the stripping away layers of self and ego to reveal our vulnerable, soft, neutral core. It also represents knowing ourselves deeply and allowing ourselves to truly be seen.

With deep reverence for Her, the waters of Earth, and how She moves and touches every aspect of life on our planet, Grace weaves the sculptural elements of hand-collected Pacific coast driftwood and silk for aesthetic juxtaposition. And, to remind us of the mystical intersection between the silk-like fluidity of our eternal spirit and the unique beauty of our finite incarnate form.
